Sharing is caring!

Using the right writing prompts for kids I have been able to encourage children at home to start journaling.

The writing prompts here are for children aged 8 – 14 years old.

I have printed these prompts and even created a journal out of this which we use at home.

Before we go into the writing prompts, let me share with you some tips to encourage children to love to write.

Tips For Encouraging Children To Write:

  • Don’t use a very thick notebook. It will put children off from opening it.
  • Encourage children to write a letter to a family member or friends they like. Even a thank-you note can be a fun and positive way to instill good writing habits.
  • Keep writing time short, a maximum of 10 minutes so they don’t feel it is a big chore.
  • Let them write about anything they want even if it doesn’t make sense to you. The goal is to get them writing.
  • Include some photos in their notebook, like a comic character to encourage them to write a story out of it.
  • Get your kids to decorate their own journal or notebook
  • Leave a bunch of cool pens and color pencils for them to use.
  • Start a family journal and everyday everyone writes one sentence in it.
  • Have them write shopping or grocery lists with you.
