Google Interland is part of the Google Safety Centre that aims to help kids be responsible on the internet through interactive games.

It was launched in 2018 and soon became the online game that children are playing.

It is also part of the Be Internet Awesome initiatives by Google.

Parents and educators can use the interland game with their children to talk about various internet safety matters.

More importantly, it helps children understand the importance of being responsible online and how their information can be used by others.

Google Interland covers different topics, such as fake news, digital citizenship, keeping passwords secure, and being kind online.

There are also other topics that educators can use for their classroom using this game.

What is Google Interland?

It is an online game that gives children hands-on experience about different digital safety issues.

The game became popular soon after it was launched.

With more children spending time online, Google realizes that families and children are using the internet on a regular basis.

There has been plenty of attention being placed on how children are interacting online.

It could be for online classes, playing video games, chatting with friends, or just browsing the internet.

The pressure is also building on how big tech giants should be more responsible in keeping the internet a safe space for children.

Educating children about how to use the internet safely is like teaching them to read and write. It is an important life skill they will need growing up in a digital future.

Using this online game, parents and educators can bring out internet safety discussion points which otherwise would never happen.

Why you should play the Interland game with children?

I spent the evening going through each of the games to see how interactive, fun, and educational it is.

I was surprised by what I found. Not only is the game educational, but it is also very fun to play with  plenty of cool creatures, background, and music.

The game teaches young kids important digital skills and kids can children even get a certificate of achievement at the end of it.

This game is suitable for any child aged 4+. The game is narrated in a very easy to follow manner.

However, there can be quite a bit of reading on the game. Hence for children below the age of 6 it is best to be played alongside an adult.

Since the game is all about internet safety there are no ads or pop-ups in the game.

Hence, it is safe to leave your kids exploring this game.

But it would be better for you to be with them so you can have some great discussion with your children about this topic after the game.

At the end of the game, there is a family pledge where parents and children can print and sign, to remind them of all the things they agree to do to be safe online.

The skills children will learn by playing the interland game :

  • Think before you post
  • Keeping all information online secure
  • How to identify fake news
  • Respect other people online
  • Ask for help whenever you are in doubt
