“Instagram has been very serious about its privacy policy” I am sorry but this is one of the most blatantly false sentences on the internet. A whole host of basic features, like replying to specific messages or responding to a message with an emoji are not available in most countries of the world and the sole reason for it is because instagram was proven to be stealing data. Laws were put into place to stop this and instead of changing their platform instagram instead forced a simplified version of their service on all countries with data protection laws. So the current state of affairs is that america and a small number of other countries have full instagram but the caveat is that instagram *are* stealing and selling their data and most countries in the world have a barebones version lacking even basic features but the only data being collected is the agreed upon stuff in the tos.
